What is Leave Balance

Essentially, leave balance is leaving in your system that you can take out as and when you have need for it.

How to Ask Leave Balance

One of the most traditional ways to ask for your leave balance is to simply submit a request to your HR department to know your leave balance.

But then, it is hassled, besides the fact that you have to wait for a long time because the HR can process your request first before passing the other works or queries. So the best is to have a proper HR system in the company which will give the flexibility to have a check on your balance without really having to bother your HR in person to know such a small detail.

This is because, in most situations, if one goes to HR to learn their leave balance, one would be given a time of at least two days before one can know their leave balance. On the other hand, through the software systems, employees are able to know their leave balance right there and then.

What are the Key Aspects of Leave Balance

This makes them understand well the number of times they can take their time out of work, whether available for them to use, rest, rejuvenate, or even attend to any personal matter and maintain their health.

How Does Leave Balance Work?

Basic procedure is you would have a leave balance. Like, you have 20 leaves for the year left in your leave balance. Depending on your need, you would simply take 2-5 days of leave again; like, suppose you want to go on a trip.

In that manner, after you apply for this leave in the month before your payroll, your leave balance will deduct to 15 days, which is about 2 weeks total. Now, at this point, you are left with 15 days more in your leave balance, to be used in the future on days you take off work.

It could be for reasons such as, you fell sick and there was a need for you to take a leave or, some personal event in your house or some other place, you can make use of this leave balance.

What Is the Process for Requesting and Approving Leave?

The basic process of requesting and approving leaves is simple. You go to your manager and just say that you want a leave. Generally, they approve it right from their side, but if necessary, they may also ask the other heads involved that whether the leave should be approved or not. And based on their yes or no, they will approve your leave.

However, it is important to note that this process can be different for different companies. For instance, in some companies, you will have to file a written application, while in other companies, you can apply for a leave through the software system, that they approve from the system as well.

In some cases, you do not even have to ask for it in a formal way but just say it and get the leave.

This is also dependent on what kind of leave you are going to take, e.g. sick leave is fine even if you declare right before you are taking it, but you may still get permission. In casual leaves, you may have to apply for a day previous; on the other hand, if you are taking an earned leave, you may have to request it in advance in front of your manager.
