Employee offboarding is a process that a company follows when an employee leaves a company.

  • HR should take feedback of the employee who is disengaging with the company despite their reasons—whether they''re leaving the company on their own or the company has decided to part ways with them.
  • You should arrange a farewell party for such an individual. It can be as easy as gathering each and every team member in the cafeteria, cutting a cake, and letting everyone express a few words about the person. This would really be respectful toward the person and, in most cases, the person would leave the company on good terms with your company.
  • Also, you can provide outplacement assistance services to the employee who is leaving the office if it is essentially required for him.

  • Communicate everything at the right time—best done by talking about this as quickly as possible.
  • Start the paperwork well before the employee leaves the company. This consists of a resignation or termination letter, medical insurance, retirement accounts, and unemployment insurance, or any other nondisclosure or noncompete agreements.

What Is HR Off-boarding Policy?

An offboarding policy is more or less a paper trail of one''s creation and delineation of all the steps required in it for the inclusion of a process of exiting. That helps ensure the smooth offboarding of people, even if there''s a new HR handling this process, since it''s documented.

Moreover, a well-defined offboarding policy keeps one on a vantage point where their company will be safe from data breaches or any other security threats and hence, legal issues. Plus, it helps maintain the relationship between the employer and the employee.
